Author Queen Suriyothai was the wife of King Maha Chakraphat of Ayutthaya whose reign lasted from 1549 to 1569. King Maha Chakraphat was said to have so many white elephants that he was nicknamed the King of the White Elephant. According to Brahmanic beliefs, if a monarch had one or more white elephants, it was glorious and happy sign of his / her reign.
Hardly six months after ascending to the throne, King Maha Chakraphat was put to test by the king of Burma. King Tabengshweti wanted to test King Maha Chakraphat’s courage and exact revenge on Siam. King Maha Chakraphat prepared himself for the war as he considered it to be an insult to his honour.
Queen Suriyothai dressed herself as a man and accompanied her husband to the battle front on an elephant. The two kings fought each other. During the fight, King Maha Chakraphat was in danger and Queen Suriyothai seeing this, tried to rescue her husband by driving her elephant in between and in the bargain was cut from shoulder to hip. The Burmese king on realizing that he had killed a woman was ashamed of himself and immediately withdrew from the battle.
Ever since, Queen Suriyothai has been regarded as the greatest heroines of Thai history. She has been revered for her bravery, love and devotion towards her husband. She was the first queen to have gone onto the battle field. Her ashes are enshrined within the Sri Suriyothai pagoda at Suan Luang Sobsawan Temple in Ayutthaya province of Thailand.
Money Number One in Thailand
If ever “money number one” was set in time as a national catch cry, it would have to be in Thailand where the phrase “money number one” is used countless times daily by many of the Thai people in dealing with the thousands of foreign tourists they regularly encounter.

Mainly set in the seaside resort city of Pattaya situated on the eastern seaboard of The Gulf Of Siam in Southern Thailand, the stories contained within the Money Number One book series and their corresponding sequels and additions, vary in length and subject but are all for the most part based from true instances and events gathered over the years by Neil’s own personal experiences and those of others either relayed to Neil or told in person in one of the many bars and haunts he frequents in order to carry out his somewhat clandestine research.
Dubbed by many as “The Single Man’s Survival Guide to Pattaya” and “The Pattaya Bible” the Money Number One series are a recommended read by thousands of experienced Thailand visitors both male and female when advising potential new visitors about the who, what, where and whys of Thailand long before the bags are packed to go, and indeed long after they have been unpacked on their return home.

95% of the Thai people are Buddhists of the Theravada tradition. 4.6% of the people are Muslims. Malays are mainly concentrated on the southern tip of Thailand. 0.75% of the people are Christians, mainly Catholics. Sikhs & Hindus are tiny, but influential. Baht Buses in Pattaya – Red, White and Blue
Blue Baht Bus
If you’ve been to Pattaya, you’ll be familiar with the dark blue baht buses that run 24/7 in the central areas. Otherwise known as a sorngthaew (two rows), a baht bus is a pickup truck converted to carry 10 passengers on two bench seats.
There’s a baht bus every couple of minutes during the day and until the nightlife winds down, around 3 am. The fare is 10 baht for any of the standard routes in the Pattaya area. You can also rent a baht bus as a taxi, if you need to travel off the regular route. Be sure to negotiate the fare before you climb in the back!
Many visitors don’t venture far from Pattaya’s central area, because if you’re here for the beach, the great food and the nightlife, there’s plenty to keep you entertained just steps away from your hotel. If you need to travel further away from town, there are several other baht bus routes you might find useful.
White Baht Bus
There’s the white baht buses that travel up and down Sukhumvit, the arterial road, that runs all the way from Bangkok to Pattaya, and south to Sattahip, then east along the coast. The white baht buses travel from Naklua at the northern end of Pattaya City to Sattahip in the South, home of the Thai Navy.
There’s lots of places worth visiting along Sukhumvit If you want to visit an outlet mall along Sukhumvit, or one of the attractions, like Underwater World Pattaya, then hop on a white baht bus, and ring the bell when it’s time to get off!
You can also explore some of the beautiful beaches along the coast, south of Jomtien. There’s Bang Sare, the fishing village and beach resort, with quiet beaches where you can enjoy freshly caught sea food at one of the Sea Food restaurants right next to the beach.
From here you can visit the Koh Khram, an uninhabited island, with beautiful white sand beaches and pristine coral reefs, a great place for snorkeling enthusiasts.
Red Baht Bus
The Red baht buses travel along east-west along Soi Nern Plub Wan, starting from Sukhumvit and then to Soi Siam Country club. This is where you’ll find fresh food markets, an abundance of street food stands, the Siriporn Orchid Farm and a magnificent Temple, Wat Suttawat. The east side of Sukhumvit is the suburb known as the Dark side. There’s lots of places of interest here like the Crocodile farm, the Elephant village, Pattaya Floating Market, Nong Nooch Tropical Gardens and Mini Siam, that has replicas of 100 sacred places and historical sites in Thailand.

Bangkok, Gay Friendly Hotels – Where to Find and Stay
The popularity of tourism has been growing steadily in Bangkok Thailand. This is true especially for gay and lesbian travelers looking for a holiday in an exotic destination. Siam Heritage Boutique Hotel is another place to consider for your stay in Patpong. Though it has been around for awhile the hotel property especially the rooms have been very well maintained and decorated in true Thai style, a rarity these days in newer hotels.
Finally there’s the budget friendly Wall Street Inn which is directly opposite Duangthawee Plaza and it’s gay go go bars. Overall the hotel is not in the best condition but the location and rates which usually includes a free breakfast is definitely a good deal.

The Akha Hill Tribe People of the Hua-Fai Community – Chiang Mai, Thailand
They live along the banks of the canal in the hart of Chiang Mai, not far from the Night Bazaar. They are a hard working people that spend most of the day in work groups, Hand making all these fine cloths. Then at around 6pm they walk to the Night Bazaar to sell there wears. If they are lucky they will sell $3 or $4us of product. Many times I have seen them sell a belt or hat for cost or less just to make a sale to feed their family that night.
A lot of the Farangs (tourists) barter them down buying as cheap as possible, You hear some arrogant woman saying to her boy friend, “what a rip off” for something that only costs 200 Bart ($6us). Sure it is fun bartering with the richer stall holders and it is a barter market but to push a poor lady down below cost is going too far. Most of these ladies have dependents too look after, Children, Parents and Grandparents. You see many old ladies looking after a grand child that has lost its parents.
There is no Social Welfare system in Thailand; some do get subsidized Health care if they were born in Thailand with a ID card or a work permit (that most of the aliens can not afford to buy).
The Akha people of Chiang Mai, Thailand
have fled the NEVER ENDING WAR of the far North
(raging since 1947).
The Golden Triangle covers a large area.
Traditionally where Thailand, Burma and Loa join is called the Golden Triangle. The “Gold” being the liquid Gold of raw opium.
The NEVER ENDING WAR rages on every year (dry season usually), it is a bullshit war designed to keep prying eyes out of the growing fields of Burma who produce a massive 3700 tons of raw opium each year for export. That is very conservative as the Shan State usually produces 300 – 500 tons of refined Heroin a year.
That said it is still a very real war for the people at the front line. It periodically spills over into Thailand who quickly quells the intrusion. Many refugees end up in Thailand and work there way south.
Many have ended up in Chiang Mai. Akha, Karen, Thai Yai (Shan) There are 13 or so ethnic groups that have carved out there own states in Burma running down Thailand’s western border from the far north to well past Bangkok.
Most Akha people from Burma are devout Christians who turned to Christianity in the 1800s and last century when the British ruled Burma. They speak Akha, read, and write there language with English (A, B, Cs) British influence once again.
After the British, a banded them after the Second World War around 1947 there church went under ground as the never-ending war raged around them.
The Military Junta S.L.O.K. that sized power would not let out side contact in or out. Akha Hill, Akha hill tribe products is a community non profit business set up by Mrs. A-Noe Yu-Po, Sie to her friends. Their directive is to help lift the Akha people of the Hua-Fai Community and Chiang Mai out of poverty.
Akha Hill’s Mission in conjunction with the local Christian church is buying land around Chiang Mai, building houses for the poor with no interest rent to buy plans. Giving them land paper for the land. At the moment they live on no mans land with no land paper. To give them meaningful work with a good return for that work. Akha.hill and 1st Baan of Silver selling world wide for them.
To get them off the streets and the young out of the bars and “karaoke” red light places.
To have them living and working together as a family in a extended family village environment.
With such abject poverty you see many young girls walking the Bars selling flowers at 2am, by young I mean as soon as they are old enough to walk and say “only 10 Bart Mr”.
Young Mothers of 15 or 16 with a baby on her back selling Hill Tribe Products late at night. Grandmothers with a young child walking the Night Bazaar selling to support her and the child because the Child’s parents have died from Aides or some other disease or accident.
To get the children into schools. Most Akha people have no education at all and can not read or write Akha, Thai or English.
The first resettlement will be out at Sansai.
With no land paper they have no why of ever getting out of the poverty that they live in. The Banks won’t loan against there houses, The mortality rate from sickness, disease, depression, drug abuse, alcohol etc is horrendous. While building Akha-Hill.com for Sie I have attended 4 funerals at the local Chiang Mai Presbyterian Akha Church of Akha people that I had met.
Sorry to have to update this but we are attending another funeral now. The “old” (52) lady died three days before Christmas and will be buried the day after on boxing day. One old lady in her late 40s died of ? old age. A young man in his twenties died of a drug overdose after his wife ran off with a rich Farang (European)
One Mother of 3 died in the August floods. The old ladies husband died three or for weeks after her, with no one to look after him he just gave up. The lady that died 3 days before Christmas is a sister of the wife who died before her husband. That family has lost four in the last year.
While building Akha-Hill I have been living with the Akha people. The lady that died in the August floods lived next to me for one month. After that I used to see her every night sitting on the footpath on the side of the road over the canal with her youngest boy begging. they found her 3 days after the flood further down the canal.

The Akha of Chiang Mai are working hard to wards building a traditional Akha village on 65 rai of land just 10 kilometers out of Chiang Mai at Sansai. This is in a rural setting with rice fields etc all around. With Tour groups coming out and staying over night. Hopefully this will help lift them out of the poverty cycle that they are in.

Bangkok: The Unforgettable Experience

At this position, he thought that it was easier to protect the capital from enemy than it was at another river side. Moreover, he ordered to dig canals around the capital area which was known as the old Bangkok area because of the security reason. That was why later Bangkok was named by westerners as Eastern Venice because there were many canals around the town. Bangkok has continued the prosperity from Ayuddhaya, the former capital. The Grand Palace and Temple of Emerald Buddha were built at the same style as The Grand Palace of Ayuddhaya city.
